Ridgeland Unveils the History Trail in Honor of the 125th Anniversary
This Historical Society of Ridgeland, in collaboration with the Ridgeland Tourism Commission and the City of Ridgeland, is proud to announce the launch of the Ridgeland History Trail.
RIDGELAND, MS – The Historical Society of Ridgeland, in collaboration with the Ridgeland Tourism Commission and the City of Ridgeland, is proud to announce the launch of the Ridgeland History Trail. This innovative new trail allows locals and visitors to explore Ridgeland's rich cultural heritage through 22 trail markers along the city’s extensive multi-use trails and additional off-trail sites.
To commemorate the trail's unveiling, the City hosted a festive community and press event at the Plaza at Old Town Crossing on October 1st. Speakers included Mayor Gene McGee, Jim Woodrick, and Nancy Batson of the Historical Society of Ridgeland, an opening prayer by Reverend William Gilbert, Chris Chapman of Explore Ridgeland, and special guest speaker Walt Grayson of WJTV.
“What an exciting anniversary year we are having in Ridgeland! The launch of the History Trail is not only a milestone in our year-long celebration but will be permanent feature for all to enjoy and learn about our great City’s history,” stated Mayor McGee.
The Ridgeland History Trail features a series of interpretive wayside exhibits that shed light on the area’s past, from its early beginnings to the vibrant community it is today. By integrating history with the city’s natural landscape, the trail provides an engaging experience for all ages.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Ridgeland History Trail to the community,” said Jim Woodrick from the Historical Society of Ridgeland. “This trail allows us to celebrate and share the diverse history of our City, offering residents and tourists alike a meaningful way to connect with Ridgeland’s heritage.” in Ridgeland. The History Trail does just that by offering a unique journey through our city’s cultural and historical landscape,” stated Chris Chapman.
The City was also excited to announce that the Virtual History Trail went live on the City’s website on the day of the launch. “We’ve collaborated with Think Webstore on several projects, and developing this virtual experience along with the Virtual History Room earlier in the year has been a new and innovative approach to telling Ridgeland’s story, making them accessible to anyone from any location,” stated Kim Cooper, Director of Public Relations and Chair of the 125th Anniversary Planning Committee.
The Ridgeland History Trail is open to the public year-round. Trail brochures are available at Ridgeland City Hall and Explore Ridgeland, and virtual tours are available at www.ridgelandms.org.
