BLACKSMITH CLASS WITH LYLE WYNN

If you have seen the History Channel lately, you know blacksmithing and forging is hot, hot, hot and the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi has one of their superstars. Sign up now to take classes from Blacksmith Lyle Wynn, first runner-up on History Channel’s Forged and Fire and soon to be seen on their new show, Knife or Death, will provide hands-on instruction. Teens to adults will enjoy learning this age old art form that can be used to create a wide variety of metal objects from knives to jewelry. Lyle is in demand across the country as a teacher and demonstrator…so take advantage while you can!

Join artist and metalsmith, Dana Finimore, for a weekend of creative jewelry making. Learn to create stunning, handcrafted copper jewelry embellished with glass enamel. This class will be focused on enameling on copper demonstrating torch- fired techniques. Students will learn from group demonstrations, and one-on-one instruction, and use their new skills to create colorful earrings and pendants.

Love lighthouses? Guild artist Corley Marsalis will guide you through making a mosaic wall hanging featuring a lighthouse and sea-theme while teaching the techniques for making a variety of mosaics of your own design. You can choose to make the pictured piece or another lighthouse design, and you are invited to bring a piece of jewelry or other item to incorporate into your piece.

CREATIVE CRAFT SAMPLER CAMP

Each summer, the Mississippi Craft Center hosts Creative Craft Camp to introduce children to the joy of making things with their hands. Expert members of the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi immerse your child in a fun, creative, and hands-on experience, teaching them the techniques and history of craft while helping them create one-of-a-kind pieces of art to take home and cherish for years to come. On the final day of camp, your child has the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be the star of their very own art show in the guild hall, complete with an artist reception. Parents and their children can take a stroll and admire the hard work and creativity of all of the campers. Let your child come explore with us!

BEGINNING WOODTURNING WITH SAMMY LONG

Award-winning woodturner and president of the Magnolia Woodturners, Sammy Long will teach the basics of woodturning. You’ll learn about the equipment and tools used, about different kinds of wood and their various properties and suitability for different projects and the basic techniques of “turning” wood to create everything from beautiful wooden bowls to table legs. More advanced classes will be available later on for those who have completed this beginning class.

STAINED GLASS WITH JENNY THOMAS

Create your own one-of-a-kind stained glass panel with glass artist Jenny Thomas. You’ll learn about color selection, glass cutting and the timeless technique of Copper Foil. Jenny shares her knowledge and passion to inspire your inner artist and help you make your own beautiful works of glass.
