Ridgeland Cyclocross Festival November 23 & 24, 2019
In Ridgeland, we’re all about cycling and in recent years we’ve become all about cyclocross, so come on out to the Ridgeland Cyclocross Festival on Saturday, November 23 and Sunday November 24, 2019 at Freedom Ridge Park.
There’s also the Spooky ‘Cross race on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Magnolia Ridge BMX track. Both of the cyclocross races are part of the Ridgeland Mississippi Cyclocross Cup Series. Both races are FREE for Kids and there will be food trucks and face painters!
Just what is Cyclocross you may ask? Way back in the 1900’s Europeans developed cyclocross as a way for road racers to stay fit during the fall and winter seasons. Cyclocross courses are usually 1.5 to 2-mile loops on both paved and off-road surface over flat-to-rolling terrain where obstacles require the riders to dismount and run while carrying their bikes. It’s this combination of cycling, carrying, running and scrambling over obstacles that my cyclocross a great workout and a whole lot of fun – for kids and grown-ups alike!
Ridgeland can thank resident Rolando Roman for bringing the excitement of cyclocross to our area. Rolando was the founder of the successful Texas Cyclocross Project and when he and his wife moved to Mississippi to work in a family business, Rolando founded the Mississippi Cyclocross Project. As a health and wellness manager for many years, Rolando continues to engage and encourage kid’s fitness programs as a way to encourage entire families to embrace a healthy lifestyle. Ridgeland is very fortunate that Rolando and his wife and children landed here and brought the sport of cyclocross to our area. Rolando and his team of volunteers strive to make cyclocross accessible to all ages and levels. If you or your children are interested in learning more about cyclocross, please email Rolando at info@mscxcup.com.
