2018 Mississippi Cyclocross Series in Ridgeland, Mississippi
Ridgeland is the place to be this fall for all things Cyclocross! We are so excited to partner with the Mississippi Cyclocross Project to bring several fun events to Ridgeland in September, October, and November.
The goal of the Mississippi Cyclocross Cup Series is to provide Mississippi and its surrounding states access to a great experience, healthy lifestyle festival, and fun racing for people of all ages and skill levels.
Cyclocross is a form of bicycle racing that consists of many laps of a short (1.5-2 mile) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, occasionally muddy terrain, steep hills, and obstacles that require the rider to quickly dismount, carry his or her bike while navigating the obstruction, and remounting.
Specifically, the Mississippi Cyclocross Cup Series aims to provide a racing outlet for adult and junior cyclist racers in Mississippi who are part of the Mississippi Cyclocross Project: a free, eight-week curriculum-based program offered in Ridgeland. This program provides the next generation of cyclists with free clinics, training sessions, and after school programs in hopes to develop principles and values, as well as good sportsmanship, attitudes, and teamwork among our Mississippi youth. As part of a scholarship program made possible by Statewide Federal Credit Union and Pirouline, juniors under the age of 18 race for free at all events! The Mississippi Cyclocross Project eight-week program starts on Saturday, September 1st at Freedom Ridge Park. Details and registration are available at MSCXproject.org.
Although we are excited about the growth of cyclocross in Mississippi among its youth, these events are open to people of all abilities, ages 4 – 70+. Any non-cyclists are invited to come try out cyclocross this fall. Events are as follows:
Ridgeland Weeknight ‘Cross Series September 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th – This series spans four Thursdays during the month of September (9/6, 9/13, 9/20, and 9,27) at the Ridgeland Trails.
